These are my desert island pickups vintage humbuckers, and primarily because of the middle position. The Midnight Rider features offset coils that are entirely handwound with 42 AWG plain enamel wire. While the large majority of humbuckers are machine wound, the very time consuming art of handwound coils (in combination with an offset) leads to a tone like no other and one that is rich in complexity and dynamics with an extended frequency response compared to machine wound equivalents.

The Midnight Rider is a brighter P.A.F. that accentuates clarity and string definition without sacrificing warm and full lows. The slightly scooped mids result in a percussive tone that is difficult to describe but unmistakable once heard.

Indicative of the best of the brighter ’57 through ’58 P.A.F.’s the Midnight Riders are, like all of our pickups, built by hand, one at a time, to order and wax potted for preservation and to tame microphonics. We are happy to NOT pot them upon request.

A NOTE ABOUT SOUND CLIPS:

Corporate marketing hype has made it mostly necessary to include sound clips and resistance specifications. Both have very limited meaning and are, in many ways, lies. The best player can make the lousiest guitar loaded with the cheapest pickups played through the lamest amp sound downright amazing. For that reason I feel that clips are misleading. Clips let you hear almost everything except the pickup and primarily the amp in a controlled environment that’s not readily reproducible. Please take these thoughts into consideration.

I took a chance on a set of Midnight Riders to replace the uninspiring stock pickups in a Player Jazzmaster. I wasn’t looking for a JM sound but love the vibrato system. The Midnight Riders made a phenomenal difference in clarity and chime that you just can’t find in mid-grade pickups. I’m a straight-into-a-tube-amp-player and these sound fantastic on every single amp I have. I’d really love to hear them in a Les Paul!!!!

I didn’t buy these, they came in a guitar I purchased from a friend from Minneapolis. I was so blown away by these I had to contact Jesse to tell him. I’ve since bought Revel Pickups for all my rigs.

Couldn’t be happier with the Midnight Rider PAF. It’s hard to find a neck position humbucker that sounds great on it’s own, yet blends with and doesn’t make the bridge pickup too bright. You know what I’m talking about! Can’t say enough good about it, Great!

I had these recommended to me for a 335. Took a shot. These are amazing. I have played a lot of pickups. These are, without a doubt in my mind, the best I have ever heard. Bravo.
