Wound lower than the Midnight Rider, the Rock Bottom is as low as we go on a traditional P.A.F. – outside of a custom build, of course. These pickups exemplify clarity and presence. They are detailed, bright without being shrill, and percussive. While the Rock Bottom is ideal for a hollow body or any application where you’d want consistently scooped mids from a traditional humbucker, they are also fantastic if you favor definition with your fuzz or other more aggressive overdrives. A Rock Bottom in the neck will also cure the darkest of guitars. The lows are full, the mids are scooped and the highs are mellow.

Alnico II in the neck and bridge and wound with 42 AWG plain enamal wire.

Neck: 6.8k, Bridge: 7.5k,

A NOTE ABOUT SOUND CLIPS:
Corporate marketing hype has made it mostly necessary to include sound clips and resistance specifications. Both have very limited meaning and are, in many ways, lies. The best player can make the lousiest guitar loaded with the cheapest pickups played through the lamest amp sound downright amazing. For that reason I feel that clips are misleading. Clips let you hear almost everything except the pickup and primarily the amp in a controlled environment that’s not readily reproducible. Please take these thoughts into consideration.

Jesse made me a pair of these for my SG. It completely transformed that guitar for me. It’s always been my favorite for it’s playability but the stock pickups left me wanting. I play with a lot of different fuzz pedals and I had difficulty maintaining clarity, especially on the low end. The tone of these is pickups absolutely blows my mind. They are sparkling and lyrical when played clean. When I run them through fuzz I find nothing but beautiful sounds. Fuzzy, fuzzy, beautiful sounds and none of the mud I was struggling with before. They are so versatile I have yet to find a pedal they don’t agree with and when I run them straight into my AC30, it’s pure heaven. I have never been so inspired by a guitar before and these PAFs are the secret ingredient. All three positions offer unique but incredibly well balanced tones. I’m excited to continue to get to know what these pickups can do. I might even start playing in front of actual people!
